Starting out younger?
I'm only 19, so I'm still really young, and I'm starting my classes to get my license starting this January. I know after I get my license, I wont be very trusted or thought as reliable when I'm not even 20 yet. Ive always wanted to do real estate though, and I think it'd be at least a good idea to get into it earlier rather than later to start out. However, once I get my license I don't know where I should go from there where I can establish myself when I'll be younger than most.
I also feel that even if I did find houses to put up, people wont be taking me as seriously as they'd take others, is this most likely going to be the problem?

I recommend finding a great agent with a team in your area and see if you can start there until you learn the ropes and gain experience.

Hey young chap, you are really interested in this field and starting making your mind professionally to enter in this profession. Now, you are too young and do not possess much experience you just need to stick to a big name and get some vast market experience which will also give you confidence and you will learn the techniques and tactics to stay long and how to survive in this market.
Good Luck young boy

I agree that you should find a good company and work with them first and then you can do on your own. I think you are too young to work alone. It can be dangerous even.

Being young at the age of 20 doesn't matter, what's important is how well and how much do you know about real estate market.

Mila - I have a question... WHY do you want to be an agent? (I am not trying to be offensive.)
The reason I am asking is because if you are 100% dedicated to being an agent, it doesn't matter your age, because you will prove your worth in a very short time. If you are 100% dedicated, you will show your clients that you have the drive and ambition to service their needs, be it selling or finding their perfect home. It is not the age that people will see, but the services that you offer.
Now if you just became an agent, because it is easy to get into - just a few courses and licensing - well, your heart will show others that you are not in it for them, but just for the job. - If that is the case, get out now! The headaches will not be worth it.
I don't know which applies to you, so as long as you are doing the job with passion and commitment - age is easily overcome.

I think with the right attitude & hard work that you could be very successful. Many younger buyers may be more comfortable working with someone that is in their generation such as you! I would suggest targeting Gen Y & first time home buyers. Good luck and best wishes.

I echo this recommendation. I am young in the business at 28 years old, so I can only imagine what you feel like at 20.
Work with mostly buyers, in 5-7 years those people will become sellers and you'll have a great business after the 10 years mark...you may not even have to pick up many "new" clients after that point.
Just educate yourself as much as possible and start doing the business. Like Nike says "just do it". You'll make mistakes and learn from others' mistakes as well.Steve Howe - REALTOR - RE/MAX Advantage Plus

I dont see it as a problem. Watch those kids on the tv show "million dollar agent". They are in there 20's and they have people giving them multi million dollar homes to list.
