Starting off
Hi everyone, I'm a sophomore this year at the University of Notre Dame, but I live in Dallas, Texas. After I graduate I plan on getting a job in the finance industry. However, I eventually want to own my own real estate investment company. My original plan is to invest in rental properties while I still work the finance job, and then once i accumulate enough cashflow from those properties, move into real estate full time and mix in flipping with rental properties.
My questions, then, are as follows:
1) While either at school or working finance internships/jobs, I will not have much time, if any, to pursue an internship or mentor-ship in the real estate industry. Is it realistic to succeed in this business without an internship? (I am an avid reader and am joining the Real Estate Investment Club @ ND this year)
2) In relation to question 1, would it be unreasonable to seek out an experienced investor, and ask to go in 50/50 financially with him making most of the decisions and teaching me the ropes? (once i graduate from college)
3) What books/seminars/DVDs would you guys recommend for me to get an idea of the industry?
I really and truly appreciate any help you guys can give me. I understand that I am a few years off from joining the work force, but I want to get an idea now so I can get the ground running. If you need more information, or I was not clear, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
