Mentor-New agent, Hows it work
I have an offer from a very successful Realtor, and former "Power Broker" to come under his wing as a new agent, He also said that he will work on getting me employed at his firm where he is top agent. He said he has 30-50 more homes than he can manage alone and has been giving them up to junior agents in his office, and says that I need a piece of this action
This gentleman is the one who suggested this field for me and has been hounding me to do it since we met.
I am currently enrolled in an Online Salesperson program for California, and have a few questions about the Mentoring process.
What does this entail on my part?
What does it entail on his?
Do I basically preform as an assistant while learning the ropes?
Is it likely to see any cash flow from my assistance?
What kind of tasks will I be doing?
What expectations should I have for this time?
Thanks again

Those are all questions to ask him unfortunately. It would be far easier to learn real estate if you are working in a team with someone and can learn the ropes and get an idea of how to do the business with a steady paycheck. Going out there alone with no clue can be pretty difficult for a lot of agents!

Real estate agents can have a lot of different business models. Some work. Some don't.
As far as the questions you ask - you need to ask the person with whom you are intending to work.
Good luck.

I can't answer those questions for you but I can say having a mentor in any business, or just in life, can be extremely useful. If he is going to show you the ropes and let you work his leads I would say go for it.
Just make sure your mentor is someone you trust, respect, and someone you think is honestly trying to help you.Steps Marketing, Inc.

mentor
I would take up his offer in a minute. Work with him and try to learn his path to success. You can use all of those skills to be success in your career. Also look online and study more, so that you can applied his methods with the latest and you might end up end more success than him.

MN Real estate team
Sounds like a great idea! I really believe real estate teams are an awesome option for so many realtors.
You get leads, you get to learn from other agents on the team. You can shadow top agents, etc.
Here in Minneapolis, we have always enjoyed the team set up! It has allowed us to be able to sell more homes and have some life balance as well.
Hope this helps!Minnesota MLS & Minneapolis MLS Search homes for sale in Minneapolis, St Paul at MN Multiple Listing Service. We specialize in buying and selling residential and investment properties. Start Minnesota MLS search for all Minneapolis real estate for sale in Twin Cities, MN

Success Breeds Success..
I've gotta go with Vegas up there. If you have the opportunity to work with and be mentored by someone who is consistently successful - Take it.
What will be expected of you? doesn't really matter (unless you have a better offer)- No matter how mundane a task may seem at the time, if the end result is you having a successful career in a lucrative field - do it, do it happily and do it better than anyone else.
Good Luck.

yeah i do agree... you have to make sure you can trust your mentor, its hard to be lenient on those matters since its about business and it covers most of your future.. just be particular and direct on dealings with financial matters

I will try to answer this on a broader sense..
What does this entail on my part?
You would have to serve his purpose depending on his goals.
What does it entail on his?
To teach you and give you the opportunity to experience and learn.
Do I basically preform as an assistant while learning the ropes?
Yes, most of the time if you are paid.
Is it likely to see any cash flow from my assistance?
In real estate, I imagine yes, you would.
What kind of tasks will I be doing?
The ones he assign you with. It really depends on him.
What expectations should I have for this time?
Accelerated learning and cutting edge experience others would take ages to find out.
One word of caution, just do not fall into `slaveryship' if you get what I mean ... Good luck!Last edited by Pardew; 06-12-2009 at 10:26 AM.
