    Default health insurance, other expenses

When you work for an agent in the typical independent agent/commission role, are you responsible for health insurance? Social security? Is it basically just like being a freelancer, with no benefits whatsoever?

    Hi,

Actually I am curious about this questions answer from other people too.

If I have to give my personal opinion then I think nobody is responsible for anybody's health insurance in case we work without any contract. If a contract exists which explicitly states about the insurance then that could work.

I have been in real estate for 11 years. When you are a 1099 independent contractor you are resonsible for your own insurance and taxes.

If you are a W2 employee for the brokerage for the company they will take out taxes and may or may not offer helth care.

Commission is always better in my opinion

Agreed. this is the way where one is not responsible for health response if not having any contract.

    Default Health insurance

Yeah we pay are own health insurance but working commission and having no limit is nice. I prefer being rewarded for working harder then getting payed the same no matter what.

I wish i had health insurance but in the long run i feel we are better off being a 1099 employee. That way we can decide what insurance program we want and we get to write off all of our expenses. There are good and bad things about being self employed.

If you work as a 1099-form independent contractor then yes, you would be responsible for buying your own health insurance.

Unfortunately you would have to buy your own insurance. If Obama's healthcare reforms would would kick in you'd be able to buy health insurance in pools, just like big businesses do.
