Operating with an expired license
Someone I know took a listing in May of this year, then in August their license expired. Can they still hold the listing? Can another agent come by and take over the listing without the seller requesting a listing cancellation? If the new agent uses a buyer found originally by the old agent can the agent sue for commission? What are the potential ethical and legal violations?

His/her broker will take the listing over. The listing itself is safe and will always be. Why to operate with an expired license at the first place? It's so easy to renew even online, in no time...

I have no idea why the listing agent let her license expire, but when I searched her on the California DRE it showed that it was. The listing agent in my case is actually a broker, not an affiliate broker, but a self employed broker. Who takes over for a broker when their license expires?

Talk to someone at the California DRE. They are the ones with your answers. It might also be possible there is a mistake on the website and the broker still has their license.

Need more information to answer this question intelligently. The listing can always revert back to your broker.

Expired license
I remember a case earlier this year in the states where the real estate company while in Bankruptcy was selling its book of business to another broker to take over their listings.
The Listings were in Legal LIMBO as they could not be relisted as they had not expired.
Maybe someone recalls the details
