Insurance issues on renting to a Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Hi All!

As some of you might know, the use of medical marijuana has been approved here in Colorado and approximately 12 other states in the United States. Regardless of your position on this topic, I thought I would share some information as it affects insurance coverage for building owners and their desire to lease space to medical marijuana dispensaries or growers.

If you own a commercial building such as retail (strip mall), office, or warehouse and are considering renting or leasing to a medical marijuana dispensary (MMD) or grower you might want to check with your insurance company. Certain insurance companies will not continue to insure your building due to their perceived risk associated with MMD's. They are concerned with robbery, vandalism, etc.... The solution is to find an Insurance Agent who specializes in the medical marijuana industry that can insure both the building owner and marijuana business.

I also wanted cannabis to be legalized here in our country but my countrymen have low self control and usually abuse the use of this herb. I learned a lot from this post and that was really true. Marijuana, mary jane,ganja or anything that they call it has always have high risk attached to it. You can't blame them because it is always has danger on it's tail.

I met a real estate agent from Northern California on a plane and he told me he had 3 people rent houses from him and start a grow house. Does home owners insurance cover the weed if case of fire or breakin? Unreal...
