Question re:Terminating lease
I have a couple of questions...
My credit history got really damaged this past year because of bad decision making. I will also break the lease with my landlord of 4 years to move out of state for a better job opportunity. Lease runs until July. On the bright side, rent payments have always been a priority and even though I will default on my contract my landlord cannot complain about my payment history for the 4 years I have been his tenant. I have never missed or being late on a payment. We both have tried to get the place sublet without any luck, winter time is tough for that.
Will this reduce my chances of being able to rent again?? After all he will not be happy about me not making rent payments after I'm gone (There is no way I will be able to afford paying 2 rents until July), although I did give him 60 days notice. Am I wrong to believe that with my credit history damaged as it is, his reference would be very important for future rentals?
Any suggestions as to what other options do I have?? I thought about offering an extra month's rent for him to legally terminate the lease. Not sure if that will be incentive enough, but it could beat no payment at all.
Thanks in advanced for your advice.
