Press releases are a great way to bring traffic to your site=leads. There are some free sites, I have used them successfully:

Definitely press release is one great way to increase traffic.It's quite similar with article submission but press release is written in order to highlight an important event, program or piece of information by an organization. It is designed to be sent to journalists in order to encourage them to develop articles on a subject.

I totally agree with the traffic part but somehow or rather I always wonder what type of traffic it attracts... Ive had some success creating a good impression of my products as readers tend to treat press releases as a third party, communicating unbiased reports... Had anyone used press releases online to convert potential leads into actual buyers or customers? Just curious.

Its true, some of these release sites are really powerful and of you incorporate a keyphrase important to you in the title it can go straight in on the first page. This can be a great source of traffic and also help you be viewed as an authority on your choice of subject.

I had some feedback from my customers lately that they do refer to press release sites to gather information. According to them, they had this perception that press releases are generated by a 3rd party and regarded it an`unbias' credible source. There were one customer which actually bought from us and our press release was the deciding factor.

I wonder if I could also write press releases though my site has no new updates?I am doing a lot of article submission and would be glad to write a good press release too.
