I just received a loan package from a gentelman representing a mortgage company (STARKEY MORTAGE). hE WANTS ME TO SEND A CHECK FOR 350.00 payable to a different name. Does this sound fishy or am I listening to the news to much? If this is the norm, will I receive the 350.00 back if not approved? If this is a scam what should I do? I spoke with him on the phone and gave him permission to pull my credit file prior to recieving the loan package.
Thanks,
johnk

sounds extremely fishy. some mtg shops have an application fee that works to keep a borrower from shopping them around, but if they are asking you to write the check to another company...that just makes no sense.
i'd pass and move on.Below-Market terms on residential loans from $1MM-$20MM. OO/2nd/3rd/4th/NOO available in all 50 states.

I agree with Super Jumbo. Move on, there is something not right with this... FYI, I wouldn't allow anyone to pull my credit. If you did not initate this call, never give personal credit info about yourself.
