    Smile Itchin' to move

Greetings! I'm Wes, currently living in Arkansas and working myself out of a job. Current projections put my pink slip date around June 2012, but it could easily be sooner. When my job is finished I want desperately to move out of the hot, humid South and start a new life in a different area of the country. I believe in being prepared, so to that end I thought it would be nice to learn what I have to look forward to in relocating and trying to buy my first house. A search on the internet for a place to ask questions of experienced realtors led me to this forum. Hopefully I can get the answers I need and be as prepared as I can be for when I finally move.

The first thing I did was search all the job sites to see what locations had the most jobs for my area of work especially in this economy. It also gives you an indication of how much they pay in that area. Some areas might not look attractive until you look at the cost of housing. Doenst do you any good to move to an area where you wont find work.

From there you can gauge the home prices and see if there in line or acceptible to what you will be taking with you and what you will be making.

Be sure to look at the big picture as well, taxes, car insurance, etc. You might find that making less money but paying less for everyday items puts you in a lower tax bracket and ultimately puts more dollars in your pocket when all is said and done.

Not knowing your financial situation or line of work that would be my first step.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I definitely wouldn't move before having work that would just be silly lol. Currently I work in Demilitarization, but I have no degrees in that field, I just happened to luck into this job. So job-wise I'm sort of a blank slate. I have an Associate's in Information Systems and I am CPPS certified so hopefully those two factors, plus my past work ethic will land me something solid.

I'd narrow it down to three areas where you'd like to live, then go and visit then. If money and time permits stay in a vacation rental to get a feel of living in that area - you could love it or hate it. You don't know until you try! Jobwise maybe see a careers consultant they might be able to give you info on what jobs you are likely to get.
