Could someone explain IDX in a nutshell for me?

idx, internet data exchange, is basically a database set up allowing you to access content in a structured and organized setting and provide provide access to this content to your users.

MLS IDX - allows the transfer of MLS data from the MLS board to Realtor websites ultimately allowing buyers to search for properties.

I also own part of a marketing firm- Queen Bee Marketing and we specialize in Search Engine Optimization. It took us a while before we located a solution to IDX that was search engine friendly.

Yes, there are hundreds of them but they are not all created equal.

If you have the money go custom IDX from the start. If your funds are limited then you will need to go with a frame in option. The best choice on that matter is Diverse Solutions. They also have a plugin that you can activate a service that allows you to obtain nearly all the benefits of a custom IDX. But, it still does fall shy of a good custom provider.

When you go with a frame-in, does the data get credited to your site as unique content for the analysis of Pagerank or is it merely a portal to the local MLS? Thank you in advance for replies from the experts.

At the end of the day the goal of a good idx is to increase the number of leads generated by a website. When evaluating a idx search its best to look at A) how much you pay and B) how many leads you are going to generate. When we designed our idx search (in the sig) we designed it specifically to increase the number of leads for agent sites. That is why the "inquire" and "request a showing" buttons are a little more prominient.
