    Default How Page Rank Really Works

    I have noticed that many members of this forum talk about page rank but from things that I hear them say I dont think they really understand it. I have supplied a link to a web page that does a decent job explaining what page rank is upto the point where google stated hiding changes in their algorighm. I hope this shines some light on what page rank is for newbes and vets to this forum that may have been confused on this topic.

    nice piece of info. but how does PR really help on rankings?? there are some people who got obsessed on trying to get high PR but the problem is they forget what their real target is. And that is to get to the top. Yes, PR is a good thing but its just a part of the huge thing

    Yeah in the begining it was all about page rank but people found it to easy to manipulate so now google only uses it as part of what they use to rank pages. I had the privlage to be a student of Jon Klienberg who actually came up with the Hub and Authority page ranking algorithm before the google founders implemented page rank. Alot of the page rank algorithm is based on a paper written by Jon Klienberg on work he did for IBM on this subject. You should Wikipedia Jon Klienberg he is considered a genius by most in the algorithm field.

    Well he is the founder of PageRank but not the founder of the page ranking concept of Hubs and Authorities nor is he the founder of the idea of ranking based on number of backlinks. And further more he is not the founder of the concept of weighting the value of backlinks. However, he is the first to implement a working concept into a profitable business operation.

    Google doesn't really show us the real page rank anymore, so it is kind of a waste to worry about what the toolbar shows these days. But It is still hard to ignore that green bar!

    More PR = More trust of Google = (if optimized properly ) High and stable ranking

    More Quality Back links + Quality Content = More PR

    True.

    More Quality Back links + Quality Content = Better Rankings + Possible higher PR

    Myth

    PR = Rankings.

    Page rank plays no part in the algorithm it's merely an indication off the incoming links you have to your site and the juice they pass off.

    PR is really just a way of saying what level of probability you have from getting random browsers. Yes it does help you in the search engines, but not nearly as much as it used to in the past. Heck, you can even artificially forge whatever PR you want for your site.

    In short, PR is still important, but just know it does not have nearly the impact it used to have 2-3 years ago.
