Diverse Link Building
I was wondering, I am building links to many different pages of my site. I have quite a number of links coming from the same domain to my main page, but virtually non coming to my internal pages from that domain. If some of my internal pages started getting links from that domain as well, would it really be all that helpful, (everything else being the same of course). The domain is a quality, Authoritative Domain which the links are coming from. My main page probably has 25% of its links coming from that domain.

It is really not a good idea at all to just get a ton of links from a single domain, no matter where they are going on your site. A while back, Google really started to penalize sites doing this by checking if sites have tons of links on various pages going to a single site. I can't remember what this is called for the time being, but it was (well... still is) an option webmasters give people who want to purchase links. It raises a big red flag that the links were probably purchased.
And if both the outgoing and incoming domains are on the same IP, then that will probably raise a red flag as well.

You will not be penalized for links on other sites pointing to your site. Depending on the site they may not help, but they will never hurt your ranking.
It is best to promote your main page, however if an internal page has unique content on that page then it might be useful to promote that page as well.

link building
It's definitely a good idea to get incoming links to sub-pages in your site by theme. Example: if you have a page related to luxury homes you should have an incoming link related to that page. If your office is in NY City it might be something like "luxury homes in New York city" as your anchor text. If you match up the page title, incoming link anchor text and keyword phrases correctly your rankings will improve over time as incoming links increase.

I would say that it isn't necessarily bad to get a ton of links from a single domain to an extent. It gets to a point where it doesn't help you any further.
You will rarely get penalized from a backlink unless its from a paid link.
As far as deep link your site pages it is a good Idea and it will help those pages rank and keep them up in the serps. I deep link all my pages that have competitive keywords.

Don't forget to do interlinking between pages in your own site. This will help create diverse links.

You will not get as much help as getting links from different domain names .....(c class IPs) etc...Still better than getting no links to you inner pages...
