Has Anyone Noticed
That G is becoming stingy when assigning PR value to links pages?
I have noticed many links pages that are only 3 clicks from the home page of a PR5 site that have PR0. I check the site structure, robots.txt, and make sure that there are no preceeding rel=nofollow tags and the site is clean. There is no nast javascript, cgi, or redirects involved.
From the site structure, these link pages should have either a PR3 or PR2.
The only common element that I have found is that when I check WHOIS, these are all new sites.
One more thing on the rel=nofollow tag - there are a TON of web sites that use this tag hoping that Google interprets the recip link to their site as a one way link. Be sure to check the HTML code of the site that you are exchanging links.
One dirty trick that I have seen is that the link sub pages (the page that your link would be on) has clean code. But the resources directory page uses rel=nofollow all sub pages where the actual recip links are placed. NASTY TRICK!

Is there an easy way to find this tag in the view source for a novice like me?

When you visit a page, choose "View" and then "Source" from your browser menu to see the HTML in Notepad. Then do a search for the "rel=" tag.

I am using a links page on one of my sites and haven't see anything peculiar about the page PR.

I haven't noticed it on all sites, just some sites. Most of these are new sites in 2005.

The easiest way I've found to search code for a particular tag, or word is to use the "CTRL F" feature on your keyboard. Holing these two down at the same time will bring up a little 'find' box that you can enter text into and it will find it on the source code page for you. it even finds partial words too, a search for 'real' will find other words like 'realty', etc.

The lengths some will go to.... If they would only put that much energy into making a nice site... Nice catch. Thanks for the tip.

When anyone finds a directory site that is BAD...write me a note explaining what is bad or wrong about it, and I will create a page that brings this up.
If someone finds a directory site that is GOOD, do the same thing.
If you have comments about any of the directory sites listed on this page, please provide them: http://www.realestateabc.com/propages/linksites.htmTerry Light, StrokeUSA.com and SciFiFiction.com
