DMOZ titles = Google titles
Google is now using titles from it's directory instead of the meta tags.
Google uses of course DMOZ results to fill it's directory and therefor prefers to use the titles chosen by or accepted by DMOZ editors rather than the ones created by the website owner himself.
It is very similar to titles on incoming links deciding what to rank a site for.
The face of search engine optimization is changing, more and more Google is moving towards solutions on finding more accurate and impartial sources to help decide which sites should appear in its SERPs based on the likelyhood of quality and relevance.
Yahoo! may not make the same move with it's own directory, after all it could punish people who pay $299 by taking away the keywords they are targetting in the natural results. It probably would get rid of their spammy results but they seem to be undecided at this point on which way they should go with everything.

Dmoz
I submitted my site to DMOZ months ago and it still is not listed? It is a good site with lots of content so there is no reason it shouldn't be listed. Any thoughts?

Getting a DMOZ listing can be very hard. Some of the editors are corupt and require a payment under the table to get a listing. I would recommend you e-mail the editor of the category you are getting listed under and bring your website to there attention. It may be that they are just reviewing 100's of links and haven't gotten to your or they may be an issue with your site. Either way, emailing them directly is a good start.

DMOZ editors
How do you find out the editor of a specific section in DMOZ so as to email them?
-
There are two ways that I know of to contact an editor. One, on the bottom of the pages, it shows who the editors are. IF there is not an editor for your category, go back a page until you see an editor and email them about your page.
The second way is to look on the forum http://www.resource-zone.com/ and see if they might point you in the right direction.

I thought DMOZ had stopped the resource-zone forum for invividual site reviews but it might still be a good idea to track down an editor.

Question I think
Hi All,
I guess what I'm wanting to know by your discussion here is what is the importance level of DMOZ? I know it's probably a dumb question but my only resource up to now has been the person that taught me everything I know at Homes. com about web presence and what I've read over the internet.

DMOZ is a human edited directory which Google has in the past used as a basis for their own Directory. They then use the listings in the directory as one of the many factors when determining ranking of websites.
In the past it was considered a must have to get rankings in google however in todays market, I helps greatly but is not a necessity for obtaining top rankings on basic terms.
Hope this helps.
