You might not see as many people as in the past interested in exchanging links woth other real estate website. It appears that Google is trying to iluustrate a point that they no longer favor those practices.

I am did Google so I don't want to speak for them. But, many Advanced
Access websites with excellent rankings from all of the U.S. including some of the best Atlanta real estate websites where I am. The reason as been discussed in other places was too much reciprocal linking. These websites were manually edited down in the serps, as best as anyone can tell. It is suposed to be a warning.

    Bunk.

When search engines first began integrating the link conponent into their algorithms, Advanced Access sites benefited because of the inter-linking between AA sites.

Over the past few years the SE's (especially Yahoo and now Google) have refined their algorithms to detect link networks and other questionable linking strategies. In fact, Yahoo is very aggressive at filtering sites that they think might be involved in a link network.

Reciprocal links are still a valid way to build links for your web site, although some of the rules have changed - especially when it comes to what search engines might consider as being a link network. That's why you shouldn't go for shortcuts when someone asks you to "trade links with my 100+ real estate sites". Depending upon the interlinking between those 100+ sites, that may be considered a link network. Even building links via forum exchanges can be risky if enough people begin exchanging links.

Link building is a boring, sucky task. It takes a long, long time to build a decent portfolio of reciprocal and one-way links. But if you do it the right way your site will benefit.

P.S. In case someone asks, my company does not provide link building services. We offer full SEO packages only, but we are not taking on any additional clients until around the 4th quarter of this year.

    Well,

You keep on doing reciprocal link exchanges if you would like. I will not. There is no reason to exchange links with someone when you can create easy one ways that are of greater value and are NOT potentially looked at as link farms. I have removed my reciprocal links state pages from my website. Others have as well.

Advanced access was specifically targetted and the were hand edited. Ihave a very high ranking website and I am not going to have someone from google swing through my state pages and devalue my website because of recip linking. My website is worth far to much money for that risk. Period.

I agree that reciprocal linking can benefit your ranking if you do it on a one-on-one basis. But yes, it takes more time and effort, but it is more rewarding.
