Default Web Pages With Same Contents.

My web site has 2 to 3 copies of web pages (minor difference exist among pages).
Is this wrong and there are chances of banning .

    Thanks in advance.

If you have same content on two different urls of your site then you should remove the one which is less important, or replace the content with 100% original content.

And if you can't remove the content then you can simply use the rel=canonical tag at one of the page mentioning the other url in this tags. In that way search engines will give preference to the url which is mentioned in canonical tag, and they won't gonna penalize you.

I agree with what everyone says here. I am having a hard time understanding how you get two pages with the same content. Why wouldn't you just use the same page? If you are writing one thought, one page, there really isn't a reason. Maybe if you tell us what the page(s) are about and how they became copies, it might make more sense.

    Quality over quantity.

I was going to only echo the question raised in the previous comments, i.e. why and how have you got pages that are very similar? Then as I was writing I wondered if we have all misunderstood the question. Are you maybe referring to pages you have copied from someone else’s website and then changed them slightly?

It's always better to have unique and fresh content. Search engine (especially google) can penalize your domain for duplicate content, So just be careful

Chances are Google may see your pages as Duplicate pages, and will have problems when ranking on SERPS. Best you can do is to change the content for your pages, of course it should be different from other page contents.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with it. The issue with "duplicate content" is you are fighting against yourself for rankings. For instance, if you have 2 pages of your site, one geared to houses in Tampa florida and another for homes in Tampa florida, it is bad practice as each one will be stating basically the same information. When building your sites, think about the user more than the search engine.

Sorry - just edited this. If you are really concerned, you can edit your .htaccess file and send traffic from your duplicate page to the better original page (301 redirect). If you PM me I can give you the code to use.

I would be very concerned about it. The issue with dupe content has nothing to do with "fighting against yourself for rankings" but more to do with quality unique content in the eyes of the search engines.

Why would you want dupe content on your website anyway it has no benefit to anyone even with minor changes. It will just appear spammy especially if you are just changing the odd word.

Best to do a bit of maintenance and rid your site of these pages, a 301 redirect is not the way to go with this.
