You can do SEO before you SEM your website or you can just do SEO alone. SEO is getting organic traffic through search engines and SEM is doing marketing strategies like banner ads, social media/network or anything related to marketing.

SEO and SEM both are the different term but SEO is actually the component of SEM it is the most effective strategy in SEM campaign, but the fact is that SEM is the act of marketing a website via search engines.

SEM is broader in meaning and includes SEO and they are both important for any Internet site as this is the way to make a site visible online.

SEO is part of SEM work.

SEM (Search Engine Marketing) is the main market in the Internet Marketing industry. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is under the SEM and one of it's branches. Other branches of SEM includes PPC, (other than SEO) email marketing .. and many more.

Yes, SEO and SEM both are different activity, both Consist Different activities.
SEO stands for Search engine Optimization, and SEM stands for Search engine Marketing, no doubt both are different activity but both have same Destination that is Good Ranking in Search Engine.

SEO amd SEM are different. SEO includes only optimization on search engines for organic search whereas SEO includes all type of Search engine marketing activites i.e. organic banner ads paid marketing etc.

SEO is for the reverse-engineering the search engines or the technical aspect of generating traffic. SEM, on the other hand focuses more on marketing in general.
