Blog Commenting for SEO
When you comment on a blog post you have three categories to fill out.
Name
Email
Website
By entering your website, does google pick this up as a backlink, or do you need to literally place your website's link in the comment/text? How much attention does google pay to this and is posting in forums a more effective way to improve a website's page rank?

No need to place a link in the comment. Google picks the link from the "website" field. But as "seopower" said, google will only follow "do follow" links. Most of the blogs are "no follow". The best way to check whether a blog is follow or no follow is to install a plugin for your internet explorer (or chrome or any other) ... easy to install and it will show you which links are no follow.
Another question is how much effect does the blog commenting have to Google page rank? It will produce a backlink, but the relevancy of the link is much more important then the link itself.
