    Default Bounce Rate Unreliable

The bounce rate on your site is an unreliable statistic. A lot of people go to sites for different reasons.

You may want to look at your bounce rate as well as the keywords people use to get to your site. From there you can figure out why people aren't sticking around.

    Default RE: Bounce Rate

Low of course. But don't get hung up on it. The more visitors you have the more telling this number becomes.

    Default Of Course

Of course a lower bounce rate is better. All I was saying is that a lot of web masters will get hung up on it. There are several factors that should be considered first: how the visitor got to the page, keyword discovery etc.

It's futile to look at the site-wide bounce rate and make any logical conclusions. You need to use Spring Metrics or some other software to look at landing pages individually: why they aren't converting, is the page misleading.....

You can set custom variables in Google Analytics to create sales funnels and drilldown for individual landing pages.

If you have a framed idx then it can look like you lost them to a bounce when they are actually shopping for real estate on what is effectively your site.

The lower the better as it means your site is more engaging to users

Bounce rate statistically shows how visitors land on your page and either they roam around within other of your pages of just leave without any other action. When you have a high bounce rate, it basically mean that visitors landing on your page leave or do not stay longer and just leave (probably because they did not find anything helpful to what they are looking for on your page) and vice versa for low bounce rate. But that is not always the case. You may have a high bounce rate but does it for good - again - depending on what your website is all about (ecommerce, third party website, blogs, etc)

Bounce rate is when someone visits your page, but only the landing page opens. They then proceed to another site from there
