How popular words are searched on google?

I am having a hard time trying to research how popular certain keywords are being searched on google... What i am doing is comparing words using trends and the adwords keyword tool and the results i am getting are way off/inconsistent

Whenever for a particulae word searching is more, like if there is new keyword & traffic is good on that keyword, that keyword becomes popular.

As a searcher. I think long keywords is the best way to get the popular in the google. Because some other searcher or weak searcher are searching a one word. Of course the results are so many.

I suggest that you stick on the result on the adwords..It is more accurate..

But, if we want to check the popularity of bunchof keywords then how we will do that ?
