    Default Domain name question

sorry Im sure this question has been answered many times but i couldnt find a decent answer in the search.

I have a question about a domain name

I currently have 123realty.com as my site name... not really just an example.... it does ok in the search engines depending what terms you use.

I found out that the keywords "your city homes for sale" is available in a domain name. So basically what Im saying is that the top used search term/phrase can be put into a domain name and is available. from my experience i have seen many search terms in domain names and many times they come up high in a search.... many just because it is a good relevant site...

So my thinking is, get this domain name with the best search term and point it at my existing site. Im guessing I could put together a site desciption for that.... but I guess it wouldnt actually have content. Would this domain that is just pointing to another site come up in the search engine when someone used that keyword phrase?

Or would it be better to actually name my site with the keyword phrase and then for marketing my site give out my 123realty.com name that would then be pointing to my site?

I hope I am making sense in my question

Also would changing my site name hurt where it curently ranks

    Default some info for ya

Having your keywords in the domain is the best thing you can do for yourself. That being said if you buy that great domain and just forward it to 123realty.com nothing much will happen. BUt if you build out the GOOD domain and perform SEO on it....you can rank well in a short period of time.

But....if the keyword you picked has a ton of competition.....your screwed.

    try this...type in

    allintitle:keyword

this will tell you the number of pages you are competiting with.

    thank you for the response

my thought is to have a keyword domain ex. homes-for-sale-in-my-state.com but then actually use a different name to market, the market name (simple name/easy to remember) will just point to the site but the keyword name will actaully be the site name tied to the site.... would this help me

I would use the domain with the keywords and have a 301 redirect to the new site. From a consumer's standpoint, if I went to mycityrealestate.com (hypothetical address) and it redirected me to 123iamagreatrealtor.com I would think something iffy was going on (most consumers have no idea what a 301 redirect is). Buy the new domain (which as you said, has keywords that would be easy to remember), make that your main focus and fill it with content, any leftover traffic from your old site can come to the new site via the redirect. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
