Google Page Rank? Does it really matter?

There is only one way to improve your ranking in the Google SERP and that is to write relevant and interesting information .dot.
Google is monitoring this with 2 tools:
1) Click Through rate which is the number of times somebody is clicking divided by the number of times a result is printed
2) Total time that somebody who entered in your site is remaining there.

All other things are details.

That's the only way? I guess all my #1 rankings were done the wrong way then :P thanks for clearing that up!

Today Google is interested in three things:

Authority
Popularity
Social Proof

All other things are details.

You can have the most relevant and most interesting information in the world and still be nowhere to be found.

Equally it can be argued that traffic is of no use if visitors simply bounce straight off the landing page or do go on to further pages but it still doesn't lead to a conversion. I believe that all factors that could result in a sale should be taken into consideration.
PR doesn't guarantee good SERP but it is a factor, and in turn SERP is a factor in producing traffic. But once a visitor arrives there is still much to be done.

In my opinion Google page rank is a great indicator of the SEO direction your website is heading in. While I agree that a high PR does not result in rankings if you are doing SEO right your PR will go up. For example a domain with a PR 4 is generally going to be a lot higher value then a PR 0. Therefore if you obtain a PR 4 you can assume you are headed on the right path.

Unfortunately that isn't necessarily so. I have a PR4 site which was hit heavily by Penguin, whereas my PR3 site wasn't touched by it. PR is just one of many indicators.

Really? How would a user even know what their PR was unless they had an SEO tool? It is where they appear in SERPs plus advertising etc that drives the traffic.

Once you were hit by Panda what has your PR gone down to? Although I am not sure if Google has updated the PR toolbar. I am willing to bet that if you haven't seen a drop in your page rank yet, you will.

I wasn't hit by Panda but by Penguin. That was on 24 April, the last PR update was on 03 May and the site remained at PR4.
My point is that it was PR4 last November, and in February prior to Penguin it was still PR4 so that I could have thought I was "on the right path" but obviously I was not.
