For those of you interested in SEO & the use of nofollow links this video of matt cutts from Google may be of interest
    http://www.uswebcentral.com/2009/05/...-nofollow.html

We have recently added the nofollow plugin to our Bellingham Real Estate Blog

I'd be curious if others out there have done the same and what the results have been.

It's an interesting topic. Whether or not nofollow links carry weight in the search engines is a matter of opinion. I believe they do still matter and can help your page rank if they are a page with relevant content. Google says they totally disregard nofollow links but they do display nofollow links and there has been a lot of discussion about their importance.

I had a blog that I switched over and did see a small decrease in my traffic but I also think the spam eased up a little bit.

Well I am pretty sure no follow means no follow and those type of links wont give you any juice. I agree with the video its good to nofollow paid links and unimportant pages so that you are directing your websites juice to the most important pages of your site which should help them rank better.

I am not saying I know if they matter at all. It just seems like they are a set of data that would be wasted if they didn't utilize it at all. Either way they still may get you traffic too!

The nofollow rule only applies to google spiders, so in a way you can still perform link building to nofollow sites for Live! and Yahoo!

Nofollow links are not wothless for a few reasons.

    1. There are some search engines that ignore the tag.
    2. There's always the off chance that someone will actually click the link
    3. Those links could potentially become "dofollow" one day (This is especially possible with blog links)

It appears their are arguments in both directions; however, I can tell you the day in January 2007 that wikipedia added the nofollow tag was a dark one for many website owners and SEO folks.

I can tell you that they are not worthless. They should be used for not waisting your page rank on things like login's and terms or service, etc.

Wikipedia in 2007 said that and at the same they were stuffing their site full of them. A lot has changed since 2007.
