It can be if you tweet on topic and also become a source of info for your potential clients.

Search google for articles relating to Twitter and Real Estate. There is a ton of stuff out there to read.

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but I believe pretty much anything can be useful for real estate as long as you are creative in using it. Twitter can be an extremely powerful tool for real estate if used in the right manner. I know from personal experience that I have received some good traffic to one of my sites through Twitter. You just need to establish credibility and become an authority. It may take some time to do, but chances are it will be worth it.

    Default Not sure...

I think there is a fine line for an agent, between selling real estate, and being a professional prospector...

I would have to say that the odds of becoming the one source for real estate information based on twitter is fairly low. I have read studies that suggest that this type of marketing is viewed as less valuable to the consumer, and may actually hurt your brand (kind of like spam).

    Jury is still out though.

As far as I'm concern, you can only spam using Twitter. At least, this is what happens with the few that I'm following. I only get links, links and more links...like in my junk email...
But if you don't spam, there is no way to get traffic...

If you own a website, tweeter helps a lot! It would help a lot of getting "indirect" backlinks and traffic too. Just keep following people with similar interest and convince them to follow you too.

I use it to post various updates from time to time about real estate and mortgages in my areas. I don't know how useful it is. I figure it is like fishing, the more hooks you have out there the better your chances are.

I think twitter would be great for real estate you can tell your clients about it and post new listings on twitter. You could even set up a blog and post new listings there firs and install a plugin so that your twitter account will be updated every time you make a new blog post.

I am amazed at how some of the responders think of Twitter... first of all as with anything it is how you use it. Secondly you want to make sure you are creating the relationship - be it with other professionals, clients, or just helping - what you put out there is what you will get back - if you put out trash you will get trash back.

Twitter can be valuable and can get you some great leads, traffic and let others know you are there for referrals... it is fast, easy and clean... I use it - I have gained clients, referrals and knowledge... so my vote is go for it.
