google penalty
I was number 13 on google's search for santa clara homes and I just checked yesterday and now I'm number 160 what happened? I haven't really changed anything, I probably need to post some more stuff.
Let me know if you have any ideas.

Yeah, I check it and it wasn't in the first few pages. What strategies are you using to promote your site? How old is the site? Maybe you are optimizing other keywords more than this "santa clara homes".

"What have you done for me lately"
That's Google's tagline. Just because you WERE on the top before has no affect on tomorrow's rankings. Understand there's always new sites coming on to Google, and people trying to better their ranking. You snooze, you lose.Steve Howe - REALTOR - RE/MAX Advantage Plus

If it's showing up at all, even page 13, you're not sandboxed, so that's a good thing.
My guess is that your site is pretty new, yes? If so, especially if it's less than 30-60 days, your bouncing around is totally normal. It's what is referred to as "the google dance". You may well bounce back up closer to the top again, then fall off a few pages back and on and on for a little while (like I said, maybe a month or 2), before Goolgle finally determines where you 'belong' (according to them). Also, as the other poster mentioned, the SERPs are living and ever changing. Add good content, keep doing it, and you'll be fine in the long run. Don't sweat the short term.

Sorry, forgot to mention that in addition to adding the quality, relevant content to your site, you need to make sure you take care of your OFF site optimization. In other words, be sure you're getting links TO your site so G recognizes that you're an authority on Santa Clara homes.

You may have been hit with an unnatural link building profile filter meaning google things you are getting too many links using the same keyword. If you think this is the case try using a variety of anchor text when u get links and try changing a few anchor text you have access too.

The key thing is to ensure you're not doing anything black hat or spammy, on-site or off.
In addition to the above, rapid accumulation of inbound links (especially for a new site) appears dodgy. A colleague's site got similarly whacked (didn't even rank for its own domain name). Penalty/filter was automatically lifted after three months. He got off lucky. Some sites remain in purdah for a year and counting.

If your main focus is on the Keyword "santa clara homes" you should definitely make this more prominent. Adding the title "Santa Clara Valley Living | Your guide to Santa Clara homes, etc..." or something similiar would probably suit you better. Also the keyword only appears to be present in your tags.
Hope this helps

google penalize those website that loads to long, and those that has duplicated contents on their sites, reducing you PR. and SERP visibility.
