Google Will Disregard Directory Submission?
Here is the source of the story:
http://www.beussery.com/blog/index.p...ry-submission/
Any thoughts on this matter? While Google has condemned buying and selling links that pass PageRank, they’ve encouraged listing in paid directories like Yahoo for years. It seems that era may have come to an end earlier today. The following bullet points have been removed from Google’s Webmaster Guidelines Webmaster Help Center*
* “Have other relevant sites link to yours.”
* “Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.”
Does this recent move reflect a renewed emphasis on rooting out paid links passing PageRank and/or low quality links by Google?
*As mentioned, the bullet points above have been removed from the US version of Google’s Webmaster Help Center. Other versions may not yet reflect this change.

As for my knowledge Google not considering paid and reciprocal links but one way links from directories still matters for page rank in Google.
They have divided the links as DoFollow and NoFollow they only considering DoFollow links as backlinks.

I don't quite agree with you. Google is considering paid links and reciprocal links. However if they detect this (they even use site reviewers) you will get banned or you will get in the supplemental results. Regarding Do and No follow there are a lot of rumors these days that actually even NoFollow links pass link juice so of my opinion, it does... so it's up to the webmaster

I've always felt that the paid directories were a joke. It means that if a company has a bigger war chest then they will be able to buy links from high pr directories. sounds like bs too me. I personally have never paid for any BL. and my sites are on the first page of google

This might be the case. Google hates paid links. Now when these are usually discarded from Google so directories are going to see the end soon.
