The Famous Google Dance
If you think you need to write an email to get invited to an annual dance at the Google headquarters, the GooglePlex, you may want to continue reading this important chapter on just exactly how Google's database and search robot technology operates. While the Google monthly update cycle is fairly well documented, over the past year this cycle (now affectionally called the "Google Dance") has become less and less of a pattern and more of a giant step in darkness for most webmasters and site owners who anxiously await all monthly updates.

Google updates more often than before, my rankings in certain keywords clearly reflect Google Dance's effect.
I also heard that backlinks would be disregarded in the next algorithm update.

Everyone keeps referring to the seemingly random Google updates as the "google dance", so what do you call the fact that you can do 2 searches for the exact same keyword and position 1-3 of the SERPs will shuffle each time? Some would say different data centers but I don't know.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that Google is doing different tests constantly. The Google Dance is really when it comes to major updates in the SERPs. There have been numerous instances where I have refreshed SERPs and the orders were different. This is because Google is testing how other websites respond to different rankings with regards to conversion rates and bounce rates. If the new rankings lead to higher conversion rates and less bounce rates, then chances are the changes to that SERP for that keyword are more relevant, thus increasing the chances of this new ranking to be more permanent...that is, until the next test comes around.

bye bye BL
yeah, i am afraid that the day will come when they do away with all the backlinks and then we're all back to square 1. Oh, well. then we'll all be equals... and the race starts over.

I have been working diligently on my SEO and I am jumping between #6 and #12. It changes hourly. It's been like this for the last 2 weeks. All the other sites seem to be anchored pretty solid in their spots. I am quite curious how it will shake out. I was hoping this "dancing" would stop but maybe it won't. I will report back soon.

Backlinks on Google
I dont believe they would ever disregard backlinks. If you have a news source link, I would love to read up on it. Backlinks are a great indicator of how involved the website is in the community, so I think it is here to stay.
