I use Adsense on several sites. You really need to tweak it for each site. Post what you think might work, and then wait a week, study the results, and tweak it again. Do this for a few weeks and you will figure out what works best.

Well, you should thoroughly explore your options within your Adsense account. If you are going to post it on several websites, I highly recommend that you create custom channels, then you can see which ads are being loaded/clicked...and you'll be able to tell which site is getting the most activity.

Successful conversions/clicks/opt-ins, etc. are a result of properly targeted traffic.
Just getting 50,000 random visitors to your site means nothing. It's better to get only 10 visitors who want exactly what you're selling/offering/etc.
The higher quality traffic you can get, the better your site will perform overall, in any niche.
As far as text or graphic ads, it depends on the site and how its laid out. You can only learn what is best by actually doing it, and then analyzing the results.

I have found success by places some blocks in or around best content. I never place the code at the bottom of the page either.

adsense
Right only pay for the most direct words. You need to get rid of every keyword that is not money. After all you are paying for it. Adsense is complicated. I think trial and error will be your best way to learn it for youself.

This reply goes by assuming that you have traffic
Well first of it the rectangle adsense block performs very well, should be embedded within the content
Add new content pages regularly and keep adding the code into it wisely and dont make your pages look spammy with adsense code
In case of blogs sidepanel, tree links are also very effective blended effectively within the panel color
