You can also try activerain.com. I don't know how they rank in the serps since i haven't really posted more than a few times, and i didn't follow up to see.

Try wordpress.com, or activerain both are pretty active in the blogging market.

I know some nice blogs about contruction and real estate.It helped me a lot and give me a wide range of choices.

Some blog sites use "nofollow" tags... not just for comment section, for all out going links.
Do not create a blog site by using those sites...You will not get any SEO benefit out of your blog..
