Use inspectors that are actually working...
You want a home inspector who's busy. That means he has a cache of clients who trust him. Use inspectors how are actuall working and can show you, say, sample reports, so you know whether or not they know what they're talking about... it's easy to weed out the inexperienced ones... Ask them for a free report, biz literature they will have spent time cultivating, for example, a free home inspection report. Not hard to find experienced inspectors in the industry.

Inspections Good or Bad
Hi wallsofcolor,
Unfortunately, at the time of my inspection, I was sort of conned to hire this guy through Community Initiatives ( a local grant program). Did not have internet and was not aware of how to check their work prior to the inspection, but found out quickly enough, I received a very poor inspection. I could have found this other person whom I knew to perform great inspections, but this inspector offered money savings and because of the other assistance I was receiving felt a bit pressured to use the service Community Initiatives offered. A lesson learned for me!
