    Default The Blog Concept

I may be a little slow so take it easy on me *but* I'm trying to figure out the advantage of having a blog over a forum.

They both have "topics" and they both have replies or comments.

The forum seems better organized and the topics are layered.

    Any clarification will help.

    Thanks.

In a blog, the first post tends to be a bit more formal and is only made by one or a small group of people and is tightly controlled by that group. Replies are simply comments to the original post. (They vary though in quality and focus like all material on the internet)

Forums, in contrast are a free for all, and are much more of an open dialog. There may still be moderators to weed out the real junk, but it's still not as controlled as a blog often is.

Of course if you wanted to, you could run a forum like a blog and visa-versa, It just depends on the way it is structured.

Personally I think it should not be looked at as either/or scenario. They are both resources that should be used in combination for the benefit of your site...

to be honest I agree with the poster of this thread. there isnt that clear of a difference, especially for the purpose of search engine optimization which is what I think the thread starter was referring to. I have found it easier to add a forum, and its much better for allowing other people to generate content for your website.
