Ok this is an advert for property in Turkey and that is what I do too. But it isn't something that is for everyone and I would like to inject some realism into the hype.
Turkey is a huge country and different areas offer different things to prospective buyers - do you want to live in a city or a resort? Do you want big or small (in terms of the location)? If you would like to live in a Turkish village for example?, well sorry but you can't.
There are restrictions on where foreigners can live. You may well be able to buy a plot of land exactly where you l?ke, but can you get permission to build there, and then to live in it afterwards? ?s electricity, water and a phone line available?
Generally speaking, foreigners can only buy/live in towns and resort areas. Before you can complete a sale checks are done to ensure that where you are buying is open to you as a foreigner.
I have lived in Didim for 4 years and absolutely love it, I have never returned to the UK (which is where I originate). I had never been abroad (sad but true) until I was 50, and then went to Turkey. On my second trip we bought a home and moved here.
But my (then) 19 year old son came on a visit 3 years ago and hated it - it was too hot, the food wasn't what he expected etc etc
It isn't like the UK, the US or Europe - it is Turkey, a unique country that has all kinds of everything.
What I would say is do not dismiss it until you have tried it, take it as it is and enjoy it, but above all make your own mind up whether it could be right for you.
