Equifax and credit reporting problems
This is my first post concerning credit reporting problems, FICO scores,
Equifax, Experian and Transunion.
Due to my hate of injustice, my involvement with many real estate transactions and corporate America, I have become a credit reporting
and credit score crusader. I hope to be even more involved in this with time.
Here is a recent encounter:
Equifax, Experian and Transunion are part of the problem.
They have helped create a complex and burdensome system that
consumers are stuck with.
The formulas used by Fair Isaac work only for general situations
and do not factor in enough information in arriving at FICO scores.
That having been said, several years ago I signed up for the Equifax
credit monitoring system. The product that I purchased provided
4 credit reports with scores and notification of changes for a year.
I had some problems dealing with them initially, but things had
been fairly smooth until last weekend when I tried to sign on. I received an error message and called support. This was Labor Day
weekend and the lady tried to help but advised that I call back in
a few days, which I did today, 9/6/2007. I called first thing in the
morning and was told they would investigate and call me back in an
hour. They did not call. I called back later in the day and found
out some new information.
1. They alleged that I called on 8/23/07 to indicate credit card
fraud. I did not! Furthermore, my account was paid up until
early December 2007. Why would I close my account.
2. The "cat was let out of the bag." They have changed their
service plans and mine was no longer offered.
They offered to give me the 2 remaining reports I have paid for,
but, they were going to start billing me for the new plan now
instead of waiting until December when my next payment is due.
Putting me on the new plan gives me 2 reports instead of 4 and
requires me paying now instead of December.
I told them no thanks and to forward my complaint to management.
Consumer beware!

Credit reporting, the rest of the story
You may be wondering why this concerns me so much.
As much as I hated to pay Equifax for this service, it was the lesser of
evils and my "safety net". Because of the number of real estate transactions that I have had, I have been more concerned about FICO
scores and credit reports. Due to a lack of accountability on the part of
corporate America, I have had false reports made on my credit. I have
used attorney letters on at least 2 occasions to clear items up. I have more stories to be related later.
So now due to the lack of accountability on the part of Equifax, I must find a new provider of this service. I have looked at a lot of them and will
not lock into a monthly commitment.
Any good suggestions?

Palisades credit problems - started with Verizon
One of my worst credit reporting nightmares began with Verizon
and ended with Palisades Collection LLC.
Several years ago I had a cell phone account with Verizon in good
standing. Someone else's Verizon account was reported to my credit
report as having money owed. I disputed this, talked to many levels
at Verizon, all to no avail. Eventually after my attorney called
and wrote a letter demanding it be corrected, the false report was
removed from my credit report. Sometime later, Palisades Collections
LLC reported this amount as being owed.
Now pay attention to this. Palisades apparently bought the "junk debt"
and tried to collect the money. Do a search on Palisades credit
problems. You will be amazed.
Once again my attorney came to the rescue.
Make sure you pull your credit report at least once a year and I would
recommend more often.
