The OP's question personifies the reason why this is a good time to get into the market if you do it enthusiastically.
If you can present a positive 'get it done' arttitude to customers and clients when so many realtors are all doom and gloom then you are gonna win hearts, minds and customers...

Like many before me had said, people need a place to live, so there is always business, especially when you love what you do.

However, I have to say from my personal experience, you need to have some money saved up, say 6 month. It is like running any business, you need to have the funds to pay the bill, mortgage and whatever you need to survive, before you have your first transaction.

I am still fairly new in the game, I still got a lot to learn, but I got in because I feel like I can make a difference in people's life, helping people realize their dream, and also thought I can make BIG BIG BUCKS. The reality is quiet different from that. Yes, as a real estate professional, I changed people's life by helping them buying their first place, but it takes a while to build your clientele and in order to have big bucks, you need to helps LOTS OF PEOPLE.

I would suggest do something that you LOVE. Life is too short!!!

Real estate is just like the stock market. You buy when its bad and sell when its good. Just because prices are low and economy is bad doesn't mean that its never coming back. nows the time to get in.
