    Default joining real estate

Why did you join real estate? Is this your dream career or just force to work with this job?

I chose being a Realtor for several reasons. Firstly, after twenty two years in C.S. and other fields, making others rich off the fruits of my labor, I wanted to take control of my future. Now, I anticipated all that's happening: The recession, everyone from the association to the State having their hands in my wallet each quarter, but that obviously didn't deter me. No, I was determined, in July of 2008, after taking s**t from people who know nothing, all day, every day, to take control.

Secondly, my years of experience as a customer service rep. and working in the blue collar field, I already knew how to treat people, how to speak with them, not at them, how to solve issues no matter how complicated the customer makes them to be. An outsider looking in will be amazed how simple "problems" are when dealing with a customer service rep. who's willing to do whatever it takes to complete the job, or to solve the problem so their boss doesn't lose it again because they only got half the freakin story.

In conclusion, being an independent has its advantages: No more punching a clock. I get to sleep in past 4am now. As a 1099, if I get any attitude whatsoever, I smile and refer them out; gone are the days being forced to watch my tongue. Gone are the days of high blood pressure and making others rich. Gone are the days of walking on egg shells, worrying if I'll have a job tomorrow or if my time to get picked on from the higher-ups is this Friday or next. Each day I learn something new and after working in the customer service field for so long, that experience comes out each day as well. No selling agent or broker or buying agent and certainly no homeowner can pull the wool over my eyes. I'm anticipating everything that comes my way: Excuses like "I neeeever got iiiiittt" to nonsense like having to drive to another state just to have documents signed, (which I did last Thursday). Nothing rattles me anymore and nothing surprises me. My years working for others has taught me a great deal: I've seen and heard it all.

I'm in a field now where there's the potential to make a lot of money in a short period of time, as opposed to an hourly cooley wage with a dangling carrot just out of reach. The potential to grow is only dependent on how hard I'm willing to work for the designations and how bad I want to be in charge. I want to be so badly, I can taste it. My future goals include obtaining my Broker's license and having a small office or two. And if banks weren't currently signing the Poor Man Blues, I'd have my office now. Working with a local bank's REOs and not having to drive all over creation; that's what associates are for. Having decent working hours and working conditions and enjoying my property and solitude down here because this is all there is.

I have joined the forum because I want to know more about the tendencies in the modern real estate world. That was the only aim for joining the place.

    Here are some tips:

    - How to select the supplies and equipment you'll need as a real estate agent
    - A checklist of emergency "on the go" supplies to keep in your car
    - Choosing the right real estate office for you
    - Determining your needs:
    - Developing a professional image as a real estate agent
    - Creating a professional portfolio to show clients (even before you start working)

It was not my first choice. I worked other jobs for about 12 years before entering real estate. After working for awhile I decided I wanted to work for myself. After some research real estate seemed like a logical choice.

I have always loved real estate and I love the idea of owning my own business and being able to work around my family's schedule.
Providing access to Minnesota mortgages and the Minnesota MLS since 2001.

I've always wanted to do something in real estate wasn't quite sure. Luckily I moved in near a real estate broker and we hit it off, so now I am a Realtor!

Kind of a funny transition...always wanted to be a personal trainer (which I actually have a side company for) but decided that I really couldnt handle that as a full time job because at the time I was starting it I was also doing bodybuilding..got burnt out being in the gym 24/7..now im a full time realtor, and more so! Side company just gets me out and clears my head now
