Blockbuster Stores Closing
Could this be the beginning of the end for in-store renting? Blockbuster announced it could be closing over 900 of it's stores by next year because of competition from Netflix and Red Box. What do you think, no need for stores anymore?

wow. 900 stores! That's crazy. The video rental must be hurting but I didn't think Netflix etc were doing that well. I think it's time for places like Blockbuster to start looking to the future. They might be too late though.

I think this is the death knoll for in-store renting. I have been a Netflix customer since 2006 and I have not looked back. Blockbuster tried to compete with Netflix but they were to slow to implement and they really didn't have a viable business model. I thought they might pull it off since they appeared to be leveraging stores for return distribution. But Blockbuster online really never seemed to take off.
I think Redbox could address people need for instant gratification and Netflix will continue to dominate market share. One of the best things Netflix did was offer on demand streaming.

Recently
Actually, recently they have been doing quite well for themselves. They adapted their renting policy from 8 dollars for 1 week to 5 dollars for 5 days and a dollar a day after the fifth. All movies including new releases are 5 day rentals which has brought new business. I don't think it's the end of in-store renting, in fact I believe its the new beginning.
If we lost in store renting it would be just another step to the USA becoming lazy and unmotivated. From this would come 2012 ha.Liberty Harbor

Wow, that's a huge fall! I thinks this is very exaggerated, the management of stores must not allow this to happen just because of competition. Many employees would lost their jobs and I think they should think of a better solution to surpass this problem rather than giving up over 900 stores.

I kind of enjoy going to the video store. I stopped going to Blockbuster because they charge 5 dollars for every movie now. There are Family Video stores in town that rent older movies two for a dollar. It's too bad because Blockbuster had a larger selection.
