How long could it take to get listed on DMOZ?
I have submitted my website about 2 months ago.
How do i know if they reviewed it and just did not accept it?
Any info would be helpful.
Thank you,
-Joe

I heard that DMOZ wasn't accepting new listings. we have a very professionaling looking site with all unique content and i submitted 2 years ago and never saw it go in. If they are accepting new listings, I sure don't know the trick. does anyone else?

Hey, I am in the same boat. We submitted our site to DMOZ directory over 3 months ago and no word yet. I have read that it can take over a year and it all depends on how many people are reviewing the category submissions. So not much more you can do expect cross you fingers and hope your site gets accepted soon.

I have no idea why it takes so long. I would have no problem in paying for the service to actually receive a good professional service. It's been the same since it's introduction. That's why free service often is bad service but in the case of Dmoz, it's terrible service and it's pretty much our only way into many other directories. Dmoz seems like a gold mine run by idiots. I've applied to become an editor for a category, took me hours to properly fill their form and never heard anything from them. I still try to submit my sites there anyways every couple weeks. There use to be a forum that we could ask about our submission status but it got shot down long ago.
Good luck.Last edited by RealEstateCompany.ca; 09-07-2008 at 07:37 PM. Reason: can't spell

Its tough to get listed. Its run by volunteers and they don't move at lightening speed. I waited over a year to get my first site accepted. If you have patience, though, it can be very helpful for your site to be listed. There are dozens of directories that use their data.

Yeah... we've had a hard time getting some sites listed in DMOZ. When you do get listed it can be WELL down the road. I'd just submit and not think about it. If you don't get in, try again in another 4 months.

I agree with Michael - it can take forever if you get listed at all. I submitted 3 years ago and never made it in.

What I hate about DMOZ
1. My category doesn't have an editor and my requests to become an editor are ignored.
2. Making changes to an existing listing is next to impossible (even thought they allow you to request changes)
3. Google still depends quite a bit on this directory even though it is a dinosaur.
On the other hand... I'm glad I submitted my websites to DMOZ back in the mid-90's! I'd hate to try to get a site listed in there now?
Has anyone on this forum gotten a site successfully submitted to DMOZ lately?

Define "lately".
I've gotten a few sites submitted/accepted within the past year or so. Don't know if thats considered "lately" or not.
