Default How do I find Directories to submit my site to?

I am showing up on top of Google for my company name and my main keyword. Google is showing my site for like 27 other phrases but on the second page of results. I keep hearing I need to submit to directories. I submitted to DMOZ with no response yet in a year. Is the Yahoo directory going to help any or just technically help with no results and 300 bucks gone.

The yahoo directory is by far one of the most trusted and respected directories online. Yes, it's $299, quite a steep price. Business.com is also respected and is currently offering $50 off through various online coupons. Overall, there are TONS of directories online, do some research on which ones would be a best fit for you. And dont forget about local sites that have directories, which can be a great source for click through traffic (although maybe not so much for PR). If you are already on the first page for SERPs (and on the second for other terms), what has been your strategy so far?

You can find a huge list of directories at Directory Critic. There are general directory lists as well as niche directory lists. I don't know how effective directory submissions are.

And remember, it's not the quantity of directories, but rather the quality. A link from yahoo directory is worth a 100 no-name directories.

I agree entirely with maui. Type in google "top dofollow directories" and check them out They are most important.

    Default Great Thread

This is one of the best threads in this forum in my opinion. 90% of the input is valuable. The references to the directories are priceless ..Thank you!
And then the references to the importance of quality is also great!

    Thanks again! Great thread!
I always had questions about the importance of Yahoo! and Dmoz and some questions got answered today.

Directories are almost useless now because of the large amount of links on them. Sure, they're easier to get, but natural links are so much more valuable.

Maui is right. Quality is far better than quantity. So getting few links from quality directories has more value than getting more links from low-quality directories
