I once added a reference on Google to my site which was involved in British Standards, unfortunately a user deeemd it non relevant and got rid of it. I suppose it all depends on who is moderating the page!

Wikipedia is almost useless for SEO. Only large companies and businesses in the news are allowed to have listings on it, and all of the links are nofollow. I'd hate to see it get spammed up with people building links off of it.

I have been listed on various WIKIPEDIAS and couldn't agree any better with you that I haven't noticed anything extra ordinary or a boost in serp. To me it appears as a quality "no follow" oneway link thats it.
So people please don't get your hopes so high for a WIKIPEDIA link.

I did get a link on there once but it was soon removed. I tried again a couple of months later and the same thing happened. However, the approach isn't consistent because some links do seem to stick even though they don't (to me) appear any more relevant.
