Robert, with Google, they like to see related content linked-in together. So if you're going to get backlinks from real estate directories, you're going to have a better overall page rank benefit from those real estate directories.

General directories, however, are a lot cheaper, and easier to come by, while the real estate directories are typically a lot more money.

What I personally do is use the manual directory submissions for about $50 worth, and then try to build all of the high quality links myself.

The big thing you want to look for is not what the page rank of the directory is, but the page rank of the PAGE that you link is going to reside on. A PR6 directory is great, but if your link is on a PR0 page, then it doesn't mean as much.

    Hope this helps.

PR juice on any page is shared out to the sites listed.

So if there 50 sites listed on a PR4 page, the link juice will be shared among the 50 sites.

So it will depend on the Google PR on a category page and the number of sites listed.

Google likes to see links from pages that are on theme; so if you are French Property sites, then a link on a category France page will be of some value.

Google certainly likes companies listed in the Yahoo directory and Business.com but not sure of the many other generic directories; so perhaps a niche RE directory will have google juice value.

That will be hard, do you mean top 10 by the rankings in Search Engine or by PR?

I was told that directories formed the base for all of your backlinks, but I have very few directories and still manage to have top rankings for my kws.
But if I had a choice between these two I would go for the more niche related directories.

Also the comment about being listed on the same page that has a lot of Bls is correct. It does decrease the link juice that is passed.

I would say Yahoo is definetely in the top 10, business.com, local chamber of commerce....will have to do some brainstorming, curious to see what else if posted here.

You might want to check a site called DirectoryCritic.com, which is actually a diretory of directories. There should be a "real estate" category where you can find all diretories on that subject.

Fedmod made some really good point pay careful attention to where you link will be placed. If its a big popular directory you may have your link thrown 100 pages down and it may not even get indexed which would be a waste of money.
