    Lightbulb Thoughs on buying foreclosure

i know about the liens and and the unpaid mortgage but would it be less to purchase a foreclosure than to purchase a home with 30 yr mortgage?? i just wanna know more about this because my father owns property and its almost paid off but he wants to invest in a home for myself and was thinking if it would be better to attain a home thats in pre forclosure. i just want more input on this and thoughts that anyone might want to add! Thanks!!
