All in one seo is a great plugin. You can go a step further by getting a paid plugin like seopressor or clickbump which will show you which aspects of your page are lacking.

As far as SEO goes, there's a lot of free information out there. Problem is many people don't know what they're talking about or are using antiquated information.

Look in the SEO section of this forum. I just gave a very basic example of on page SEO in one of the threads. Blogs are no different than websites except that typically the home page has the updated articles posted on it. You still should be SEOing each page you create targeting the keywords you are interested in ranking for.

You optimize the blog in the same way as a site. Start with a good content for the blog.

    1. Identify Keywords which you want to get more traffic - As some other members advised earlier on this thread,

    2. Make sure those keywords are there in the title of your blog post's title, category, keywords and etc....

    3. Get links for your each blog post via target set of keywords

    4. Get links to your home page via target set of keywords - Do it regularly

This would give you traffic via search engines as well as off referral traffic too,
