As what I had read in some thread in this forums, Link building, submissions to local directories like yahoo and google, article writing can help a lot,, social bookmarking can help too. You can also use some social media networks like Youtube, facebook, twitter and myspace.

I agree with all the ways Janice suggested.

Right now I am focused on link building (make sure to use the keyword you are targeting as the anchor text of your link).

I also have been doing quite a bit of article and video marketing with great results.

If you are trying to teach yourself how to do these things find a course that will help you with Internet Marketing. I am partial to the one in my sig, but there are many out there that will teach you everything you need to know to increase traffic to your blog. Just do a Google search.

The main thing is to focus. Find a few techniques you want to try and stick with them. Often people find something, try it for a couple days, don't see traffic and move on. Good traffic building will take time, but is well worth it when done right!

Good luck...feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

You can get very good result on writing articles rather than submitting your link to directories. Of course submitting to directories would help you but not much more than articles. Social book marking is the another innovative way to get a traffic to the site.

Arm yourself with sufficient unique content and original articles first and use it as a base to work out your traffic building campaign. As a newbie, you will want to try some simple ways of gaining traffic like blogging, article submission, and forum marketing at the same time building backlinks for your site...before you explore other more advanced methods like social networking, ppc, traffic exchange, safelists, etc, etc.

    1. Generate content to keep visitors and get natural backlinks.
    2. Create backlinks by posting on forums.
    3. Generate a user base that anticipates your next posts using social networking.

I suggest promoting your blog in digg and facebook mainly.
