Google dislikes blogs?
Hello,
I was talking with an SEO guy and he was telling me that google has made blogs a less attractive way of generating traffic as it once was. He said that they are ranked lower then a regular website because they are not concitered to be 'prefessional'.
Has anyone else heard this?

I am not sure I agree with this. Google loves content and a blog is a way to tell google that your site is updated and that you are adding useful content to the site.

I have been saying this for a couple of years. When you search for anything on google, blogs rarely make it to the top of the serps and when they do they don't stay there for long. Just my observations.

That may be true, but what we find is that google will consistently give a high rank to blog searches for the keywords entered. So if there is a good keyword phrase for what you are doing (long tail) then if your posts reflect that, they will show up at the top of those searches.

Blogging
It is my experience that when I blog, say about an open house...it can be found on page 1 of google shortly after I post it by typing in keywords. Try typing Saluda Mill West Columbia and you will see an upcoming open house. I don't know how long it will be there but for now it is great advertising.

These statements are bull crap. Below is a good dose of evidence if you are not convinced I can provide more.
http://humblehomesforsale.com is a niche blog I run for a community in my area. It ranks first page for many keywords and is a very young site.
humble real estate: http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...le+real+estate
humble homes: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...q=humble+homes
humble homes for sale: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...le&btnG=Search
humble houses for sale: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...ouses+for+sale
Google will index quality regularly updated content whether it is a blog or it is some other form of a site. In fact I believe that all other things held constant a self hosted WordPress blog will get indexed faster and content of the same grade of quality will rank higher. WordPress software does most of the white hat SEO for you. If you want to have good rankings stop listening to the so called experts and put up excellent content that your end users will love and your rankings will be there.Last edited by jamesww; 02-17-2009 at 11:12 PM.

I don't think this is true or it will ever happen. Blogging is a fast growing media for fresh and quality content. If they will be frowned upon by google, many will be affected.

Blogs are the backbone of marketing
Blogs and blog tied back to a static website make the engines very happy. The KEY is to keep them updated. A dead blog goes away within about a month. There are actually services that automatically update blogs with content. This is also a good "job" for teenagers to earn some money (since they more about computers than many).
