Best way to set up a blog

you can do both, i often setup different blogs on my main domain if they're focused on a different topic, just so i can keep all of my traffic on a main domain instead of starting up a new site, for instance:

loanmodification.financialplanr.com

and

financialplanr.com

I just got curious with type pad. I already tried blogger and wordpress, I will check this typepad out and see if it's any better than the previous 2.

Try using both. But if your problem is the ranking, I suggest make your own blog on your domain, in that way, you’re in charge of everything within your blog. Don't just rely on Wordpress for the SEO; it will be better to optimize your own domain.
