Advice on land Purchse please!
Hi
I'm from Scotland and recently purchased some land in Mississippi. I used the sellers lawyer for convenience. I have received a Warrenty Deed through the post which states that the seller "convey and warrants unto myself and my wife as joint tenants with rights of survivorship and not as tenants in common"
Please excuse my ignorance in these matters of US land registry. Does this mean I'm only a tenant on the land. As I bought the land outright I had expected the word owner and not tenant.
Should I also expect to receive a Title Deed that shows me as the owner of the property.
I hope what I've written is clear and thanks for any advice.

The terms joint tenants or tenants in common are terms describing ownership of real property in the united states. joint tenants is a common way of owning property for married couples. The tenants in this case is refering to your rights of possesion not of renting.
In the U.S. you do not recieve a Title Deed your ownership is recorded in the county the property is found. The Warrenty Deed is proof that title to the property was transfered to you.
Any more information than this must be given by an attorney and I suggest if you still have questions to post them in the legal forum. You can find a link to the legal forum on the right hand side of this forum inbetween two sets of google ads. Hope you enjoy your property and if you gain interest in owning property on Galveston island let me know.

Thank you very much James, you have explained it exactly as the lawyer had. So I feel a lot better, it was just the word "tenant" that concerned me.
Sorry about posting my question in the wrong forum.
