Being denied for home rentals
I'm constantly being denied when I try to rent a house. The real estate agents (different one each time) will either take my application but won't process it or won't give me an application claiming they need to speak with the owner first and then the run-around ensues. Don't they need an application before consulting with the owners?
The area I'm looking in is very much a nice area, it is the most expensive in town and it's location is important to me. However, I would not be looking there if I couldn't afford it. Being 22 y/o, I realize the financial concerns the owner/RE agent might have, so I always offer upfront 6 months rent in advance (on a 12 month lease). If only so I can get them to look at my application and see that I'm well qualified. I just want a nice place to live.
What can I do to either get these real estate agents that have given me the run-around or even new real estate agents to take my request to rent a home seriously?

It might not be the agents as much as the owners they work for. At the age of 22 you represent an owner's/landlord's nightmare. Keg parties and overcrowding are scary to an owner. You sound like you are not like that but how is anyone supposed to know.
The best part of town is also the most expensive. Why not rent a more affordable place so you can save your money for a down payment so you can buy a house in this neighborhood.Your Outer Banks real estate agent. Learn how to buy Outer Banks foreclosures.

I tend to agree with Greg, your age may be the reason for the hesitation. Maybe if you write a letter to the homeowner, ask for a couple of referrals from business collegues and include them as well. You may have better luck.

I agree with Carlam. Letters and referrals are very powerful. Use them and you should have success!Last edited by mjgiorgianni; 04-08-2008 at 02:35 PM. Reason: added source
