    Default closing extension addendums

Is it usual for seller to ask for non-refundable money to be put in escrow for a closing extension? What if this amount is $5,000?!!!

I wouldn't say the norm, but not unheard of. It is within their rights to request it. The sellers just don't want to be left out to dry so to speak and want this to close. Whatever money is requested should go towards the closing costs, downpayment or sale of the property though.
