What should agents look for?
If you had any advice for a new agent about looking for a brokerage, what would it be? What should agents look for in a brokerage?

You need a mentor to help you through deals and to help you get deals.
Don't worry about the split so much and look for someone you trust.

Training is of the utmost importance for new agents. Leads are also a big factor when looking for a brokerage.

Thank you all for the input. What kind of resources/tools do you feel that the broker should provide?

Mentor is such an important issue.
I use a national company that provides me with so many things. I get 70 internatinal mails a week, 300 bulk mails a month (plus 50 for each listing i have), i have all sorts of innhouse tools from CMA presentation kits, to online contract writeing software. Plus i am in a really bustling area so floor is always good!!
But you need somebody that can teach you sales techneque. No matter what people say, sales is the lifeblood of RE and you really need some basic training in this!! When i say sales i don't mean like heavy car sales type. You need to learn how to do this in disguise.
before i started in RE i played jazz piano at weddings and functions etc, i had no sales experience. My brokerage offered a 2 week training course which covered all aspects of the business but focused mainly on sales. It will take you a couple of read through to grasp how contracts work, but the sales stuff i learnt through these classes would have taken me a couple of years before getting down solid. I went straight into RE business and through id try what they taught me, even though i didn't like some of it - and it worked!Your Florida - UK connection Realtor. Fl Houses

As a newbie it would be wise to find a brokerage that offers a mentoring program for your first 5-10 closings. You will need a lot of guidance and you want to be sure there are people available to help you through these.
